Argos launches 'men-gagement ring' for Leap Year

Argos  |  Press release

With a quarter (25%) of UK women considering getting down on one knee and proposing to the special man in their life on 29 February, Argos has launched an engagement ring, just for men, to help them achieve the perfect proposal.

An Argos survey of single ladies in a relationship found that those in Scotland are the most likely to take the plunge with a proposal this year (34%).

Nearly half (46%) of respondents nationally are still waiting for their partner to propose, so this year presents a great opportunity for this group to take fate into their own hands. In fact, 28% of women nationally said they think men and women have an equal responsibility to propose.

Luckily, the odds of an acceptance outweight those of a refusal - when Argos questioned men in a relationship, only a quarter admitted they would say no to a leap year proposal. More than half (53%) said they would definitely accept, rising to 86% of men in the East Midlands. Almost 21% said they would need time to think about it.

Nearly 46% of ladies said they like the idea of their fiance wearing an engagement ring so other women know that he's off the market, with women in Wales most keen (nearly 60%).

The 'men-gagement' ring, which features in Argos' new Spring/Summer range, is a simple 9ct white gold band with a single diamond and was selected as the male take on the traditional diamond solitaire ring, the most popular style for ladies engagement rings.

Mark Steel, Jewellery Trading Manager at Argos, said: "Leap year only comes around every four yearsand the last thing loved-up ladies who have plucked up the courage to ask for their man's hand want to face is the stress of deciding what to actually propose with! We want to help ladies with this dilemma and that's why we're offering the 'men-gagement' ring.

"It's a very classic design which can be worn on the left hand during the engagement period and then be switched over to the right hand if the gentleman decides to wear a wedding ring following the big day. It will also provide both husband and wife with a lasting memento of that special leap year proposal for years to come.

If you're unsure which size to buy, we even have a digital ring sizer online to help you find the perfect fit."

The 'men-gagement' ring is available in sizes M-Z and is priced at £149.99. Full details can be found on the Argos website - www.argos.co.uk
All Argos rings are for purchase in-store only.

Customers can find more information on Argos' wider selection of engagement rings - for men and women - on argos.co.uk or ask at the jewellery counter in their local Argos store. Argos has approximately 750 stores across the UK.
