Group Brands bring Home Supply Chain Awards

11 November 2008

Argos and Homebase have both scooped up honours at the recent Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Annual Awards for Excellence, with Homebase winning the Supply Chain Integration Award for the third consecutive year.

Homebase is the first company to win the Supply Chain Integration Award three years in a row. Homebase faced two challenges that were critical to the business: the forced relocation of their main warehouse operation and the redesign of their bathware supply chain. The timescales required for efficient implementation of both project solutions were critical. The project was delivered on time, within budget and without disruption to the retail stores or end users.

James Fox, Network Planning Analyst, who accepted the Award from HRH The Princess Royal commented “This is a major achievement for Homebase and demonstrates fantastic teamwork between Trading, Supply Chain and our third party partners”.

Meanwhile, Argos claimed the Logistics Best Practice Award in partnership with Kuehne + Nagel. Kuehne + Nagel, one of the world’s leading logistics companies, was able to provide Argos with full visibility of their inventory in the Far East, enabling the leading UK general retailer to select the required stock, consolidate it into containers across multiple suppliers and dispatch these directly to the appropriate distribution centres. As a result of this partnership, Argos’ storage costs to support their three main Argos Direct sites were reduced by over 50% per cubic metre.

The awards, which are in their 15th year, are designed to promote and encourage best practice within logistics and transport. This year’s event highlighted the standard of achievement reached by the entrants and eventual winners of each award category. The winners were announced at a prestigious event held at The London Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square, attended by the Institute’s Patron, HRH The Princess Royal, and over 500 guests.
