Eden Project and Homebase collaborate on the future home
05 March 2008
Cornwall’s renowned Eden Project and home enhancement retailer Homebase have today announced the launch of a year-long groundbreaking study into sustainable living with 100 volunteer families.
Homebase and The Eden Project are partnering in the research project called ‘21st Century Living’ to discover how consumers make use of energy, recycling, waste and water and to look at the practical lifestyle changes they could make. This might include using things like low-energy light bulbs or fitting a water butt.
Homebase’s Spend & Save database was used to canvas families and ask for volunteers for the year-long project. Throughout the study their homes will be assessed and audited by the Eden approved auditors for their carbon footprint and sustainability levels. The start-up pack of advice will also be supported by an interactive website full of practical advice and useful hints and tips for the participating families. They will be given £500 by Homebase to spend on ecologically sound home products in order to encourage more sustainable behaviour.
Taking inspiration straight from Eden’s pioneering work the project findings will help fuel the innovation of future Homebase eco product designs and ensure that the knowledge gained can be shared directly with industry, government, academia and customers.
Homebase is delighted to be working with Eden Project again, having previously sponsored the wind turbine located in the car park at the site.
The 21st Century Living project is the latest initiative in Homebase’s continued commitment to provide advice to customers about the environmental impact of products they purchase. The Ecohome initiative launched last year is specifically designed to show how small changes can make a difference – giving customers a practical solution to the complex environmental problem.
