Argos launches extensive video game trade-in service across all stores

23 July 2010

Argos has announced that from Saturday 24 July 2010 all its UK and Ireland stores will offer customers a video game trade-in service.

Argos customers will have the opportunity to trade around 250 video games for an electronic Argos gift card that can be spent on any of the 20,000-plus products available at Argos, the UK’s leading general merchandise retailer.

This weekend sees the release of the 74th Argos catalogue, which contains a full page promotion of the trade-in service*. The Argos catalogue has a circulation of 18 million and the trade-in service will be supported by above the line online marketing linked to www.argos.co.uk/tradein.

Argos points to its open communication of trade-in prices as one of the key successes of the initial trial, carried out in a selection of Argos stores in the North East earlier this year. Gamers responded favourably to the online trade-in title price list – an industry first amongst the large multi-store UK video game retailers.

Argos’ pricing transparency also meant customers could plan their purchases in advance and ensure their desired products were available for store collection through Argos’ Check & Reserve service. Argos has seen this sales channel grow by 36% for the second year in a row.
