Alton man wins £10,000 shopping spree in Argos competition
07 February 2008
Paul Holloway from Alton in Hampshire, was the lucky winner of an Argos competition for which the prize was £10,000 shopping spree in their stores!
Following his entry to the online competition, Paul correctly guessed that 1,274 items were contained in a two metre high giant sweet jar and his guess won him the £10,000 prize.
Paul, 40, who works in a local brewery, said of the win: “When Argos rang to say I had won we were all laughing and I couldn’t believe it. I haven’t really decided what to spend the vouchers on yet but I will be buying a large screen TV!” He added: “My mother wants a new cooker hood and I’ll probably buy the children some new beds.”
Argos, one of the UK’s largest online retailers, launched the online competition in October as part of the company’s promotion of the catalogue. A giant sweet jar standing over 2 metres tall was filled with products from the catalogue. Entrants were invited to view a silent comedy film that showed the jar being filled with products from the catalogue before guessing how many products were inside. Following the presentation to the winner, the toys from the giant jar were donated to Leukaemia Research, Argos’ charity of the year. The toys are being distributed in Great Ormond Street hospital this month.
