Argos launches new ‘Christmassy Christmas’ ad campaign
30 October 2007
Argos’ latest Christmas TV ad breaks on Tuesday 30 October, bringing to life a more ‘Christmassy Christmas’, complete with 140 extras running through the streets of Newcastle and Haringey.
Created by CHI, this year’s Christmas campaign has a humorous approach dramatising the benefits of ‘Argosing it’ versus conventional high street shopping. The live action 40 second creative, which was shot over a week and replaces the previous animated campaign, sees a hectic high street packed with hassled shoppers competing to get their gifts, juxtaposed with an Argos delivery van gliding through the streets on its way to deliver a huge range of goodies to a couple relaxing by their tree at home. The dynamic and humorous footage is voiced by Stephen Fry.
Nicola Alon, Argos advertising manager, said the campaign was about making the festive period far more enjoyable: “We all know that Christmas shopping doesn’t always feel very Christmassy and all you want to do is relax, have fun and celebrate. Our campaign aims to show how, by ‘Argosing’ it, you can prepare for Christmas free from the constraints and hassles of traditional shopping, bringing to life a genuine, real, modern Christmas that many can relate to – or at least aspire to!”
Product focused 10 and 20 second TV ads will run alongside the brand ads throughout the Christmas period. These will be voiced by Dermot O’Leary and Davina McCall. Alongside TV, the Christmassy Christmas campaign will run through the line with activity in national press, online, on radio and in-store.
The first phase of Argos’ ad campaign launched on 16 October with 20 second TV and 5 second TV blips announcing the new Argos Christmas gift guide.
