Argos staff launch fundraising for kids at Barretstown

28 July 2007

Argos today announced an exciting new partnership with children’s charity Barretstown in the Republic of Ireland aiming to raise €50,000 in a year to help the charity continue its work with children with serious illnesses and their families.

The well known charity provides life-changing programmes for children aged 7-17 within Ireland and Europe suffering from cancer, blood disorders and other serious illnesses.

Argos has joined forces with Barretstown as part of a double celebration, as it launches its biggest ever Argos autumn/winter catalogue the same day, 28 July. The new 1,700 page Argos catalogue, of which over two million are snapped up in Ireland each year, was unveiled today by children from Barretstown.

Richard Whelan, whose store in St Stephens Green is celebrating the launch of the partnership, said: "Kids who come to Barretstown have often been traumatised by the experiences of their illness. They have often missed out on normal childhood experiences such as making friends, gaining independence and exercising their own choices. It’s great that Argos is now on board to help raise as much funding as possible to help more children experience the Barretstown magic."

Gabrielle Murphy, Director of Fundraising, Barretstown: "We are very pleased that Argos chose Barretstown as its nominated charity this year, and we look forward to the fun and challenging events that their staff have planned to organise during the coming months."

This fantastic new venture will see 1,200 staff in 31 Argos stores around the Republic of Ireland take part in two challenge months in September 2007 and May 2008 to raise vital funds in wacky and wonderful ways.

So, get in store, pick up your catalogue and take part in helping to create the Barretstown magic!
