Leukaemia Research and Barretstown named Argos’ next charity partners

09 May 2007

Leading multi-channel retailer Argos is pleased to announce it will be working with Leukaemia Research and Barretstown as the company’s next charity partners. The partnership will begin in store in July when the company’s successful relationship with Help the Hospices and the Irish Hospice Foundation draws to a close.

The partnership will run under the campaign theme of “Saving and improving lives together”. In the UK, funds raised will be used to support a special Cytogenetic Database which will help Leukaemia Research record symptoms and treatments of different types of blood cancer to help spot patterns and make future treatment more effective.

Argos’ 31 stores in the ROI will fundraise for Barretstown, a castle in Co. Kildare where children with cancer and serious blood diseases regain their confidence and self-esteem through residential activity programmes.

Barretstown’s Chief Executive, Jenny Winter, said: “We are very excited about this opportunity to work with such a high profile company which has such a great presence in many of the communities where we help children.”

Leukaemia Research’s Chief Executive, Cathy Gilman, added: “We are delighted that Argos has chosen us to be its charity partner. Their support is going to make a real difference to the lives of the 110,000 people in the UK living with blood cancer.”
