Argos opens 30th store in Ireland
28 July 2006
Ten years from opening its first store in Ireland leading multi-channel retailer Argos is set to open a new store in Limerick tomorrow, its 30th in the country. The company opened its first stores in Ireland back in 1996 in Nutgrove, Mary Street Dublin and Cruises Street Limerick.
The new store in Childers Road, Limerick will be opening on the same day as Argos launches its new Autumn & Winter catalogue with 1644 pages offering customers everything from quad bikes to kettles. This is a far cry from the first Argos catalogue in Ireland which had 456 pages with products including cassette players and Sega Mega Drives!
Paul Reville, was the store manager who opened one of the first stores in Nutgrove, and has since become area manager for Ireland. Paul is delighted with the expansion of Argos in his homeland. He said: "It's been a tremendous journey, starting with just three stores and now reaching 30 - an absolutely fabulous achievement, and one of which I'm very proud. Argos was a fairly well recognised brand back in 1996, but now it's one of the strongest retail brands in Ireland and continues to go from strength to strength."
Argos is not only one of the leading retail brands in Ireland, it's also one of the leading retail employers with over 1100 staff. Limerick is one of many stores Argos has planned for the region with the company planning to expand by another 10 stores in the next three years.
Argos Managing Director, Sara Weller, said: "We're delighted to be in a position to be opening our 30th store in the Republic of Ireland. Ireland is a significant market for us with 65 per cent of all Irish homes having an Argos catalogue. We hope that in reaching store 30 we will help even more of our customers benefit from the breadth and convenience of our offer."
