Argos predicts Christmas favourites as new catalogue launches

28 July 2006

Argos, the UK's number one toy retailer, today announces its predictions for the top toy must-haves this Christmas as it launches its new autumn/winter catalogue tomorrow.

Brands such as Dr Who, Cars, Pirates of the Caribbean and Superman all top the list, with technology and electronics set to drive growth within the toy market.

"Once again, the majority of the key products are electronic, including robot toys, remote control and interactive products," revealed Argos managing director, Sara Weller.

"As the UK's number one toy retailer, we pride ourselves on having the expertise to forecast what's going to be top of the wish list this year. We sold enough toys during October, November and December last year for every child in the UK so we know what children want."

Away from the new film launches, such as Cars which is released today, Dr Who is set to be the key licence in the boys market, whereas Bratz is predicted to once again dominate the fashion doll scene in the girls market.

"Last year the top toy sold through Argos was Tamagotchi," added Sara. "This year we wait to see whether children favour Turbo Tail Tigger over the Roboreptile, or whether it will be the battle of the films as Cars takes on Superman!"

Argos' new autumn/winter catalogue boasts over 1,300 different toys across 180 pages, accounting for over 10 per cent of the pages of the full catalogue.
