New fundraising scheme 'ticks all the boxes'

22 November 2005

Argos and Help the Hospices have launched a new customer donation facility this Christmas which could earn the charity £250,000 during the next two years.

The scheme called ‘Tick to Give’ enables customers to give 20p to Help the Hospices by ticking a box on their selection slip when they are choosing items in store, they then simply hand over their additional 20p when they pay for their items. Slips with the tick box are currently being rolled out to all stores in the UK – and the scheme has already raised over £10,000 in the first eight weeks.

The money raised through Tick to Give will be used to help fund Hospice Information – a multi-media information service provided by Help the Hospices and St Christopher’s Hospice.

ARG community affairs manager Lorna Liggett, commented on this exciting initiative “Tick to Give is a great way of offering our customers the opportunity to support the work of Help the Hospices. The need for palliative care can affect people from all walks of life and Hospice Information gives invaluable information to people in times of need. We’re proud that Argos can support this vital service.”

Hospice Information is a telephone and web-based service which supports hospices, patients and their families, providing many thousands of people with the information they need to make informed choices about the care available for them or their loved one. It also offers healthcare professionals access to the most up-to-date information about training and hospice and palliative care service information, helping them to deliver the best possible care and therapies to people with a life-threatening condition.

David Burland of Help the Hospices said, “We are delighted that Argos has recognized the enormous value of Hospice Information and has agreed to support it. Independent, accurate information and a sign-posting service to further sources of help is extremely important. The money Tick to Give raises is going to have a real impact on people living with terminal illness, their families and the professionals who help them.”
