Help the Hospices and Argos get set for national charity champion challenge
07 September 2005
Getting from their place of work to their local hospice dressed as a pantomime horse in a horse box or as a human wheelbarrow will be raising smiles as well as money this month when Argos and Help the Hospices launch their first major nationwide fundraising event, the ‘charity champion challenge’.
Aimed at bringing together local hospices and local stores, the event challenges Argos staff to ‘deliver’ their charity champion (the staff member who co-ordinates the partnership) to their local hospice in the most unusual and fun way, while raising as much money as possible. Hospice staff then welcome the Argos charity champion and their colleagues to the hospice to meet some of the families that they will be helping during the course of the partnership.
Lorna Liggett, Charities Manager at Argos said, “All the funds raised locally by stores will support local hospices in their community, so the relationship between the two is really important. It’s a fun event but with a serious purpose and our staff are really getting behind it.”
Volunteers from hospices across the UK marked the launch of the ‘helping hospices, helping families’ partnership with Argos on July 30, 2005 by helping out with their local Argos store’s catalogue launch day. Argos has already raised over £28,000 for hospice care since the company launched its two-year partnership with Help the Hospices on July 30, 2005. The fundraising target is £600,000.
The charity champion challenge takes place from Argos stores to hospices across the UK and Ireland from now until 7th October 2005.
