Argos raises over £500,000 for children's charity Whizz-Kidz
06 June 2005
Argos has raised over £500,000 for Whizz-Kidz since their partnership began in 2003, helping to change the lives of hundreds of disabled children, their family and friends by giving them the independence to live a life of freedom.
Argos staff have been raising money through various fundraising events including; marathons, treks, staff fundraising, golf days, online cause related marketing and recycling schemes.
The main fundraising event was inspired by the theme of movement and was launched to coincide with the Olympic Games. It involved splitting staff into five and challenging them to move their regional Olympic rings and flags through all 580 stores, distribution centres and offices across the UK and Republic of Ireland in the weirdest and wackiest way.
Whizz-Kidz chief executive, Ruth Owen comments: “We are delighted with the amount of money Argos staff have raised, it really shows their dedication to Whizz-Kidz and the work we do. Staff at Argos have created such an amazing impact; for the children and families we support and their schools and communities. The difference the right equipment makes to a disabled child and their family is quite incredible – it literally changes their lives overnight!”
Argos managing director, Sara Weller, added: “£500,000 is a fantastic amount of money for us to have raised for Whizz-Kidz at the end of our partnership and the commitment and support of all our staff has been truly inspirational. Whizz-Kidz is an amazing charity and we’re delighted that the money we have raised really will change the lives of the children that need it the most.”
