Argos’ Olympic effort raises cash for Enable Ireland

24 January 2005

Staff from 18 stores throughout the Republic of Ireland presented a cheque for over €23,000 to Enable Ireland on January 24 in the Argos store in Tallaght.

The money was raised through a number of initiatives including a wacky races style relay event to tie in with the Olympics. The event saw store team members borrow open top buses, team up with the local fire brigades and Garda and brave members from the Blanchardstown West End store even let customers throw wet sponges at them!

Tallaght store manager, Noel Connolly, commented on the success of the partnership: “Here at Tallaght we launched the Argos Olympics for the Republic of Ireland region. It’s fantastic to be able to support such a worthwhile organisation. Store teams from right across the county have worked really hard to help raise such a superb sum of money for Enable Ireland to take ‘Action on Disability’.”

Enable Ireland ’s Retail & Fundraising Director, Dorothy Barry, echoed this sentiment adding: “Enable Ireland is delighted to be working with Argos . We would like to thank all the staff for their fantastic efforts and support. With this we can now acquire hi-tech mobility training units for our Children’s Services.”

Argos has also been involved in the ”Enabled & Equal – Supporting Families” campaign by selling Enable Ireland Emblems and displaying branded material in stores.
