Saving energy brings Argos industry recognition

19 January 2005

Argos has announced it has once again been accredited by the National Energy Foundation by demonstrating its continued commitment to energy efficiency.

Organisations gain accreditation after an independent expert assessor has carried out an audit visit and review of documentation; the accreditation award is moderated by the Energy Institute and this is the second time Argos has received accreditation.

“We are delighted to be acknowledged again for our efforts to efficiently manage our energy use,” said Sue Stevens, senior building services manager. “Argos is committed to saving power using efficient management systems and hope that this will be a continuing trend. For 2005 we are committed to purchasing 10% of our energy as true green power.”

The Energy Efficiency Accreditation Scheme, which from January 2005 will be administered by the Carbon Trust, is the UK's only independent award recognising achievements in reducing energy use by leading organisations in industry, commerce and the public sector.

“Argos has a long term commitment to energy efficiency and has the management of energy very much under control.” Said Martin Fry, assessor and associate director of the EEAS. “Argos first became accredited under the Energy Efficiency Accreditation Scheme in 1998 and we congratulate them in maintaining the high standards required.”

Over 200 organisations have been accredited, saving in excess of £100 million from their energy bills since joining the Scheme.

Accreditation is valid for three years and allows the use of the foundation’s logo on stationery and the website.
