Argos takes aim at the graduate marketplace
13 October 2004
Argos, the UK' s leading multi-channel retailer, has today announced that it will be searching for new talent to fill posts in a range of functions, including its buying and supply chain environments.
The huge success and growth of the business, combined with the extension of Argos' product range to 17,000 products in its Argos Extra catalogue, has created some excellent opportunities for new or recent graduates hoping to enter the fast paced world of catalogue retailing.
"It' s a great time to join the company", said HR director, Carol Kavanagh. " We need high potential people with around two years work experience, preferably in a customer-focused retail environment, to join our dynamic team. We have excellent training opportunities in place so successful candidates will be able to drive their own careers forward while taking on a role that offers real responsibility."
Argos' merchandising teams have been so successful that not only has there been a headcount increase of around five per cent, but a large number of people have been promoted to more senior roles, creating plenty of opportunities for entry level graduates. Merchandise assistants, assistant stock controllers, assistant buyers, as well as a number of similar level roles in its supply chain function, are all available career options.
"Our new recruits will be on a career path that will take them to the top of our buying function - and the proof is already there. We have a number of people who have already done just that."
A major advertising campaign is already under way in a variety of national, local and consumer press and successful candidates will work at Argos' head office in Milton Keynes.
