Argos wins gold at the Good Toy Awards

08 October 2004

Argos romped home at this year' s Good Toy Awards with one gold, two highly recommended and one recommended award for its own brand products.

Its Soap and Bathbomb Maker bath set won the gold award in the arts and crafts category for ages six years and above - even encouraging a seven year old boy to actually say: "Wow, cool, I' m going to have a bath right now!" Judges said it gave children: "Everything they need to make and wrap a really special present."

Highly recommended awards were given to the Beanstalk Baby Electric Gym/Piano for 12 to 36 months as it offered little ones, "stimulating challenges, lots of fun and inspiration for imaginative play" and to the Wooden Medieval Castle Playset in the imaginative and small world play category, "to trigger off their imaginative play and take them off into a world of fantasy play."

The Mean Speed Machines took home a recommended award in the skills and activities category, "helping children acquire and practice skills needed for everyday life."

Argos is sponsoring the Good Toy Guide, produced by the National Association of Toy and Leisure Libraries, for the third year running as part of its corporate responsibility. It offers information to parents, carers and children about an ever growing number of toys which have been assessed by children as well as adults.

"As the UK' s number one toy retailer, we are delighted to be supporting this very worthwhile guide dedicated to highlighting good toys for children and the importance of play," said Sarah Silverwood, trading manager for toys and nursery.

The Good Toy Awards ceremony was held on October 6 at Earls Court exhibition centre, London.

The Good Toy Guide has been supported by donations from Argos and the GUS charitable Trust for the last three years.
